If he learns to foul 50 times a game without being cared and to be a general Neville allround, he will be a great Joelinton replacement. Do you think one of their midfield is going? Tonali seemed to be linked with a move away.
Bring him in for the fume.

So is it that he would benefit from remaining with his club to continue that growth or benefit more by taking the step up here but not playing as much? I have absolutely no clue. I don't know how good the player is. For me, he has to play. He has to be ready to play for us too. So I suppose my question is do we bring him in and allow Gomez to move, or do we leave him on loan and go with Konate, Virgil, Gomez and Guehi. If such a thing is possible. I’m not sure either, other than I think any defender should benefit from training or playing alongside VVD Possibly so. I have a biased view of young centre backs tho. I feel like they have to play but don't get the games needed. If he is good to go then no problem.

Not a reliable journo. But for Newcastle's sake (including Isak's and ours), anyone is better than no one. Anyway, Mateta is a good player. Their fans shouldn't get snobby about it. If the link is true, I presume they find Jackson too expensive. ![]()

Where was Quansah at 18 yrs of age , playing u21's ,Giovanni Leoni has just had his 1st senior season do you know more that Hughes then ? cant please some people at all It was actually his second senior season. He played for Sampdoriai n Serie B (Italian Championship) the year before in the second half of the 23/24 season. He went there on a loan in February (a few weeks after he had turned 17) became a starter and played 12 games until the end of the season. Technically you could even argue it's his third senior season, as he made his debut in Serie C and Coppa Serie C for Calcio Padova the year before at age 16. It's definitely a bit of a stretch, though, as only played around 150 senior minutes that season. But at a minimum you can say it's his second senior season - at age 18. In a country were clubs have a natural tendency to play CBs (and other outfield players) until they turn 40. yea I missed adding that in my post , thanks for adding it

Wow, that’s a lot of money for a kid with next to no senior game time. The dynamic duo must be totally sold on his numbers. Compared to Quansah, this kid looks a lot better. His video clips look very impressive. thank you for agreeing with me

Nothing beats the experience of learning in real senior games. It doesn't even have to be the best league in the world, Salah and VVD at 18-22 played tons of games in Egypt, Switzerland, Netherlands and Scotland. I hope we'll give Leoni much more playing time than 2-3 EFL cup games and with a 30m+ fee for an 18 year old I'd expect us to do so. I'm excited, let's hope Leoni can convice Slot quickly and not get the Quansah treatment of being subbed after his first 45 minutes on the pitch and not to be seen for months thereafter. If my guess in the tactics/defender threads is right, Slot may already have several different ways in mind how to make use of Leonis player profile.

I dont think he is top class and I wouldnt take out Konate for him but hes solid enough. For 35 mil a decent signing. Talk about damned by faint praise lol Well it's just how I see it. I think our cbs are comfortably better. I think we have very good cbs. I find Guehi quite easily sucked out of position and a bit of a ball watcher. But for 35 mil I think he is as good a signing as we could make.

Completely agree, there's no point spending 30m on a teenage CB and only play him in a handful of games. I expect Slot to have a clear plan on how to use him. He costs more than double that Chiesa went for and same price range as Guehi, so this is not a punt.

We can't complain about having no CBs and then complain that the one(s) that the club have identified are overpriced or that we're paying too much. or too young and not having played enough games bla bla bla

It's a shame you can't immediately loan out a player to an English club after you sign them. Somewhere well run like Bournemouth would be a good option to send him as a Huijsen/Zabarnyi replacement for a season or even two.
Could still send him to a PL club in January but would've been much better to get a full season as a first choice CB for a team.

Sacchi's approval is good enough for me. Get the boy through the door pronto ! Indeed. I hope to God no one digs up anything he might have said about Borini or Balotelli. 2018 : Legendary Italian manager Arrigo Sacchi on Saturday slammed Mario Balotelli and the Azzurri for lacking "intelligence" as Italy struggled to a 1-1 draw against Poland in their Nations League opener.

Ok, so once Hughes has finalised the Leoni, Guehi and Isak signings this week his final job is to find out who Brighton have lined up to replace Baleba and go ahead and sign him.
Then I will let him have the last week of the window off.

They haven't managed to do it the entire window.

Arrigo Sacchi on Leoni... football-italia.net/sacchi-tells-liverpool-what-expect-from-leoni/Sacchi tells Liverpool what to expect from 18-year-old Italy talent Leoni: ‘A great coup’Arrigo Sacchi thinks that Liverpool are getting a ‘modern, strong and gritty’ defender if they are able to pull off a deal with Parma for 18-year-old Italy talent Giovanni Leoni, but admits that he would have rather seen the youngster move to Inter, Milan, Juventus or Napoli. Reports on Wednesday confirmed that Liverpool are ‘very close’ to striking a deal with Parma for the highly-rated young centre-back. Parma’s valuation has stood at €40m, while Wednesday’s reports claim that Liverpool are closing in on an agreement for around €35m. The Parma defender, who made 17 appearances in Serie A during his first season in the top flight last term, had been of interest to both Milan and Inter this summer, with rumours that a number of Italy’s top clubs were also keen but not in a position to offer a realistic deal. Sacchi: ‘Leoni is a great talent, nobody has any doubts about that’ Sacchi, writing for La Gazzetta dello Sport, has provided an in-depth review of what to expect from Leoni if he is to move to the Premier League this summer. “It brings me immense joy and a bit of anger on the other side,” Sacchi explained. “I’m happy that an Italian player is receiving the appreciation from a great club like Liverpool, but I would have liked for Milan, Inter, Juve or Napoli to have competed for his signing, not a foreign club. “Either way, I would say that Liverpool are making a great coup by securing this guy, who I followed with a lot of curiosity and interest in the second half of last season.” Explaining what to expect from Leoni on the pitch, Sacchi wrote: “Leoni is a modern central defender. He knows how to mark a man, he’s gritty, he has a good physique, he doesn’t let himself get thrown around. “I think about an excellent performance of his against a centre-forward of Lukaku’s quality. “The boy wasn’t frightened, he followed him in every part of the pitch because the plan was for fixed, man-to-man marking. He got involved in duels, and when the ball was on the ground, I don’t remember a single time that Lukaku managed to get past his opponent. “We’re looking at a great talent, nobody has any doubts about that. Obviously being just 18 years old, the margins for improvement are considerable. For example, in my opinion, he could be a bit safer in setting up plays.” Responding to questions as to whether Leoni will be able to make the step up to the Premier League and possibly the Champions League, Sacchi wrote: “I think so. He will have to learn a few things, he will have to adapt to the new reality, but I don’t think he will run into any problems longer term. “The important thing is that he is given a learning period. A little patience, in short.” ![]() So is it that he would benefit from remaining with his club to continue that growth or benefit more by taking the step up here but not playing as much? I have absolutely no clue. I don't know how good the player is. For me, he has to play. He has to be ready to play for us too. So I suppose my question is do we bring him in and allow Gomez to move, or do we leave him on loan and go with Konate, Virgil, Gomez and Guehi. If such a thing is possible. what Sacchi was saying is , he wanted one of the Italian teams to buy him , but thinks he will prove himself with us and thinks it might take him a bit of time to adapt , He is much better off with us than going on loan , and losing out on him being HG when he is 21 Slot would not be getting him if he though he was not good enough , to go straight into the squad you do know we have 2 injury prone cb's.
