So question provoked from the comments from Gordon. If the net result from this summer window is that we replace Quansah and Konate with Guehi and Leoni, is this a successful turn over? Is it stronger or weaker or what? It doesn't sound like a good plan to me. But this is based on zero knowledge of Leoni too. On Leoni, my understanding on his quality is at present excellent but considering he has had 3 yellow cards and a red, along with video clips showing him slide tackles he commits wholeheartedly . Maybe too much. The premiership is less tolerant I think to the excesses displayed by the young man. I think his reading of the game is excellent and no question on his physicality. Everyone seems to belueve his ceiling is very high. He will need time to adjust and be coached. I saw question earlier in his pace, from what I can discern is it's very good. The guy is 6.5 and looks a monster. Hes never going to look like a Lacey player given his size, but he certainly move. We are a small team, just consider, Kerkez, Frimpong, Macca, Elliot, Endo, Doak, Nyoni, Rio, Wirtz. Given that Leeds have signed 5-6 players all well over six feet, height is a measure that shouldn't be ignored. We will not retain our league title if we are susceptible to high balls from set pieces. Defence is paramount to winning titles. I'm not sure if it's the same clips I watched but every time I seen him commit, he won the ball. He stood up to Lukaku until he either won the ball or it went out of play.

Just thinking the same thing. At least a video arriving at Kirkby, something. He was spotted at the airport in Italy before departure. Assuming he’s arrived and undergoing his medical. Hope we announce him tonight. Seen that pal, I want an update and I want it now 😁

Next to van Dijk, any defender would prosper. A Guehi van Dijk partnership is defo good enough to win the League. Guehi-Stones was good enough to reach the Euro's final.
My slight worry if we replace Guehi with Konate is what happens if Van Dijk is not here? I feel a Konate-Guehi partnership would be quite nice and would be a nice holdover partnership till Leoni or someone else start reaching their peak.
Also, GOmez's injuries would mean we won't be able to rotate next to van Dijk, while having both Konate and Guehi would enable us.
But Guehi-van Dijk as a partnership I have no qualms over. You tell me these two would start 50 games and be fully fit I'll be more than fine.

So Newcastle seems to have signed Jacob Ramsey. They will play him on the left and push Gordon onto the middle. Wissa is still in the air but seemingly it will happen. Then Isak comes more into the scene. IMHO. Isn't he just the Longstaff replacement?

What's currently curious about the Isak situation is the sudden media silence. I assume that's not representative of what's going on behind closed doors but even after the failed Sesko bid we had a glut of new stories almost hourly talking about advancements for Jackson, Strand Larsen, Kolo Muani and told that Wissa almost done. Yet here we are a week later and all that has gone quiet, Wissa still hasn't signed, yet they've seemingly managed to sign a CB and CM. Lee Ryder is another Geordie muffinhead

Who’s the better defender - Konate or Guehi?? I say Ibou just because I’ve watched him more. But if we lost him to Madrid would most feel that Guehi could replace him and we would be ‘fine’. Ideal world we have both battling it out for minutes, rotating as necessary while also keeping competition for minutes and standards high. Ibou is better suited to us in the team. It's a step down just in height. Guehi is small in comparison and our defence would be much weaker. It would be the area that would be targeted by the opposition no doubts. I want to retain Konate and sign Guehi as back up and rotation. Just needs to confirm he wants to stay by signing a contract.

Think we need a petition for the club to request the club to live stream players as they arrive through the gates of AXA and thereafter until they sign their deal so that all our fans can see what’s going on.

They are trying to sign two strikers but their situation isn't helped by not knowing if Isak is being sold or not?
Why are they looking at two new strikers if they don't know the position they are in?

NUFC are not going to exclude Isak from the squad numbering or it would give the upperhand to LFC in purchasing him. No but I think he was supposed to get the number 9. got it - thanks Ste

He had a poor game against Roma and I also heard against Empoli he was pretty bad. He is young so it's pretty much unreasonable to think he is going to be consistent in performance. My views indicate he appears to go in very aggressively, not a bad thing , but it needs a little of showing players away from the danger area. Not being familiar with the premiership players he would likely face if he came on is a disadvantage of course. Familiarity sorts that.

He seems to be claiming that us not going back in with a 2nd bid is what's causing the uncertainty.
Strange considering we've said that we'll go back in with a 2nd bid once Newcastle give us encouragement.

Why are they looking at two new strikers if they don't know the position they are in? I believe that Newcastle, Howe, is resigned to the fact that a return for Isak is impossible. Wissa saga has been drawn out in a similar manner to the Isak saga. I reckon Wissa will be done, similar to the Isak deal eventually going through.

Then Isak comes more into the scene. IMHO. Surely Barnes who was very good for Saudi last season will stay on the left? Gordon might play through the middle but if they get Wissa he might rotate in that position if they can't get another number 9. They've got Osula as well but don't know how much he is rated.

Surely at this point, Newcastle should be able to see that the Isak nonsense is holding everything up. Let him go for a good fee - as another poster has already pointed out, he won't be fit to play at SJP anyway. Then spout in the media about how 'We're Newcastle. No one's bigger than the club. Fans deserve better." etc. and move forward bringing in players without having to sell a circus to them!

But it's been a week of that on repeat almost. I imagine they eventually get it done but another, main CF? Yet to be seen. Yeah the hold is Newcastle not wiling to pay what Brentford are asking for Wissa. Instead they've lowballed an offer of £25m + 5m - asking price is £40m Fair to say its another case of pot kettle

They are trying to sign two strikers but their situation isn't helped by not knowing if Isak is being sold or not? Why are they looking at two new strikers if they don't know the position they are in? I'm guessing what they mean is that it's hard to persuade a good quality striker to come if they can't guarantee them that they won't be competing with Isak. Jackson is apparently keen on Newcastle, but he wouldn't expect to get much game time if they still have Isak.

Not one single part of me thinks we should have paid £150m I said all along £138m including add ons and that’s my guess still Right. We shouldn't be paying £150m at all. This is not a release clause. If Newcastle refuse to budge from the figure, we simply walk away. They will be stuck with a very unhappy player who can't be bothered to put in any effort whatsoever, even if he is forced to play. It isn't just about the money. Paying exactly what Newcastle want will set a dangerous precedent for all our future transfers - that we are desperate and we don't negotiate well. This is a British record price and everyone will notice. If that happens, clubs are not going to allow us much room to negotiate for their players because they think we will pay the asking price regardless. We are not going to risk that. ![]() Agree, not just that for me (being of an age) where £150m or anything near is a mind blowing amount, it is a figure that seems to have been generated in the media as Isak's "value". Perhaps I am wrong but as far as anything I have read Newcastle have only been quoted as not wanting to sell ?
